Food for the Forgotten

Collaborative Consumption Questions

Food for the Forgotten aims to...
better the Atlanta community by providing food, nourishment, and smiles to the homeless and needy who normally wouldn’t receive any of these.

The idea came...
to Grant when waiting for a train at the Midtown MARTA station. A homeless man came up, looking for any spare change that he had, and he was unable to assist him. Grant had money, but as digital payment technology has evolved, we are less inclined to carry cash. He looked like he was legitimately using the money for food, and had a look of true sorrow when we couldn’t help him. However, he came back and decided to chat with Grant and found out that we are struggling college students and likely could not help him financially. We felt guilty of our inability to help him out financially, but we realized that we can help in other ways, like creating an organization consisting of the Tech community that distributes the excess food prepared by GT Dining to the community of those less fortunate in Atlanta and volunteering at various food kitchens.

The easiest way to explain Food for the Forgotten is...
an organization trying to find a solution to the overage of food on Tech's campus, improve the wellness of the greater Atlanta community, and to bring students together through community service.

The biggest misconception about Food for the Forgotten...
is that we are just a volunteer group.  The main purpose of our group is to find a use for all of the wasted food on the Georgia Tech campus.

The best moment so far...
was being charted as an official Georgia Tech Organization.  This is real!

The biggest challenge to overcome is...
convincing Georgia Tech Dining to donate all of their unused food.

People in our community are...
everyday students at Georgia Tech.

In the future for Food for the Forgotten...
hopes to have a strong relationship with one of the local homeless organizations and a strong foothold in the Georgia Tech Student Organizations.  We hope that our group will continue to grow while continuing to better the Atlanta community.
